Consultant Radiologists Based at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital

 

North West MSK group comprises of 5 Consultant Radiologist who are based at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals which is one of the largest Orthopaedic Units comprising over 28 Orthopaedic Consultants and is the Regional referral centre for Soft tissue Sarcoma, Upper and Lower limb reconstruction.  It is also the regional referral centre for Bone and Joint infections and offers comprehensive Rheumatology services.

North West MSK group also provides services to various Premier League and Championship Football clubs and super League Rugby clubs.

Started in 2010, we have a post CCT MSK Radiology fellowship programme offering our two fellows a comprehensive experience.

Dr Rob Campbell

Organising Chair

Consultant MSK Radiologist - Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals

Dr Campbell is the Consultant and lead MSK Radiologist and founder of the MSK Radiology Fellowship programme at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals.

He is an author of numerous book chapters and articles.  He was the lead Radiologist for the London Paralympic games 2012. He is a course faculty on numerous national and international MSK Radiology courses including ISS and ESSR.

Dr Andrew Dunn

Consultant MSK Radiologist – Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals

Dr Dunn completed his Radiology training in Liverpool and his fellowship from University of Toronto. He was a member of MSK imaging team for London Olympic games in 2012. He is an author of numerous book chapters and articles andinvited faculty on various national and international courses. 

 

 

 

 

Dr Hifz Aniq

Consultant MSK Radiologist – Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals.

Dr Aniq completed his Radiology training in Liverpool and is an Ex-Programme director for Mersey School of Radiology.

He is an author of numerous book chapters and articles and invited faculty on various national and international courses including the Oxford MSK Ultrasound course.

Dr Alpesh Mistry

Consultant MSK Radiologist – Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals

Dr Mistry completed his Radiology training in Norwich and his MSK fellowship from University of Toronto. 

He is an author of various articles and a book chapter and invited faculty on various national and international courses and conferences.

 

 

 

 

Dr Abhishek Jain

Consultant MSK Radiologist – Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals

Dr Jain completed his Radiology training in Liverpool and his MSK fellowship from University of Toronto. 

He is an author of various articles and a book chapter and invited faculty on various national courses and conferences.  He was a part of the MSK imaging team of IAAF London 2017.

 

 

Meet The Invited Speakers

 

 

Dr Andrew Grainger

Consultant MSK Radiologist - Leeds Teaching Hospitals

Having graduated in Medicine from Nottingham University Dr Grainger moved to Newcastle where he undertook training on the general medical rotation, obtained the MRCP(UK) and subsequently joined the Northern Radiology training scheme based in Newcastle. Dr Grainger subsequently undertook a fellowship at UCSF San Francisco specialising in Musculoskeletal Radiology. Prior to moving to Leeds, he worked as MSK radiology consultant in Newcastle for 2 years.

While undertaking examinations and procedures across the field of MSK radiology Dr Grainger has interests in sports imaging and the imaging of joint disease (arthritis). These areas form the basis of his research which has led to over 100 publications. He is an NIHR funded researcher with the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre. Dr Grainger is an enthusiastic teacher, lecturer and demonstrator having twice won the Leeds training scheme trainer of the year award, voted for by trainee radiologists. Further afield he is in great demand as a lecturer and tutor on national and international platforms. He has authored 18 book chapters in the field of MSK radiology and co-edited 3 books. He was involved in the development and provision of sports imaging services for the London 2012 Olympics, Manchester Commonwealth Games and World Indoor Athletics (Birmingham).

 

 

Dr Emma Rowbotham

Consultant MSK Radiologist - Leeds Teaching Hospitals

Dr Emma Rowbotham trained at St Andrews University between 1996 and 2000 and obtained a 1st class degree in Medical Science before moving to Emmanuel College, Cambridge University where she graduated in 2002.

She then completed junior surgical rotations between Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh and Leeds and obtained FRCS membership in 2005 and entered Radiology training at the Leeds Academy in 1996.

Following a 5 year period of training she then completed her Fellowship in Leeds in 2012. Her first Consultant post was at the Royal United Hospital in Bath where she became involved in a variety of aspects of sports radiology before moving back to Leeds in 2014 to take up her role as Consultant Radiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds.

Dr Rowbotham has co-authored a text book for the FRCR 2a examination, authored several peer reviewed papers focusing primarily on imaging in rheumatology and written 7 book chapters. Her main research interest is in rheumatology imaging. She is keen on teaching both undergraduates and radiology trainees and is currently the MSK Lead for the Leeds Radiology Academy.

 

 

 

Dr Catherine McCarthy

Consultant MSK Radiologist - Oxford 

Dr McCarthy completed her radiology training in Oxford followed by a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. She specializes in musculoskeletal radiology with expertise in ultrasound, MRI, rheumatology, sports imaging and image-guided interventional procedures. She leads the Oxford tumour, rheumatology and foot & ankle clinical-radiological meetings. Dr McCarthy has been the supervisor for Oxford’s musculoskeletal radiology training program for over 10 years. She is on the faculty of many educational courses and was involved in the integrated training initiative of the Royal College of Radiologists. Dr McCarthy has published widely in international peer reviewed journals and written several book chapters in the field of musculoskeletal radiology. She is regularly invited to lecture at national and international conferences and to peer review articles for a number of journals. Dr McCarthy is a member of the International, European, British and South African Musculoskeletal Radiology Societies and sits on the European subcommittees for musculoskeletal ultrasound and tumours. 

 

 

 

Dr Justin Lee

Consultant Radiologist - Fortius Clinic

Dr Lee specialises in all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging.

He works as a radiologist for a number of individual sports professionals and players from Premier League and Championship football clubs, Premiership rugby clubs and professional cricket clubs. He also provides radiology services for Olympic Team GB and was part of the radiology team for the Bejing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Dr Lee also works as a radiologist for the NFL International Series UK and the British and Irish Lions rugby squad.

Publications, lectures and teaching

Dr Lee is the author of three book chapters and has written for 42 PubMed publications in musculoskeletal imaging. He has also contributed to Gray’s Anatomy.
He has presented at national and international science research meetings on numerous occasions and has tutored on BMUS, UKRC MSK Ultrasound and Oxford Skills courses.

 

 

 

 

Mr Lennard  Funk

BSc.  Msc.  FRCS(Tr&Orth),  FFSEM(UK)Shoulder  Surgeon,  Wrightington  Hospital  Honorary  Professor,  University  of  Salford 

Len works as part of a large multidisciplinary upper limb unit at Wrightington Hospital and private practice in Manchester, UK. His interests include complex shoulder instability, athletic injuries, AC joint injuries and rotator cuff disease. Len routinely treats elite and professional athletes. He is Honorary Professor at the University of Salford, where he is clinical lead for the Postgraduate Orthopaedic Programme. He is also involved in many research projects, published widely and lectures internationally. Len established and runs Shoulderdoc.co.uk and is passionate about patient information and education, as well as providing the best quality of care through a multidisciplinary team.
